How to Play Twisted Party

Twisted Party is a retro horror party game by Vampire Squid, published by Polden Publishing, on Steam as app 4332910. It launched on 25 August 2026 after a short delay from the original 20 August date. The store price is $4.99, with a launch discount to $4.49 through 8 September 2026. You play on Windows or on macOS with Apple Silicon. Linux is not listed. Steam Cloud and Family Sharing are both enabled.

Vampire Squid’s own store copy is blunt: there are no teammates here. Every lobby is a free-for-all. Two to eight people join a room, a wheel of deadly mini-games fires, and the last person standing takes the round. Steam’s tag list can look friendlier than the design actually is. Treat everyone else as a rival, even if you arrived in the same Discord call.

The real session loop

A typical night starts in the menu: open public matchmaking or create a private room and share the invite code. Private rooms are the reliable way to play with a known group. Once bodies fill the lobby, the host starts the match. The game then cycles through a small wheel of five mini-games rather than an endless arcade cabinet.

Those five wheel games, confirmed from Steam reviews, achievements, and the playtest patch notes, are Blindshot, Dynamite, Braincrab (also called Headcrab), Music Hero, and Bumper Car / Car Mode. Bumper Car is turn-based. You set a push; you do not freely drive around an arena.

Between wheel rounds, survivors drop into a mid-round waiting space often called the voting capsule. While the next location loads, the game may deal blackjack, russian roulette, or a grim pick-your-favorite-person-to-live prompt. In packed rooms the capsule often only pulls a subset of the lobby — reviewers describe cases such as three of five people actually playing while the rest watch. Dying in that capsule three times is how you unlock the Freelancer skin, which is a useful reminder that waiting is still lethal.

2–4 player mode versus a full eight

On 4 August 2026 the Steam date moved from 20 August to 25 August so Vampire Squid could add a 2–4 player mode and extra skins. That mode is still last-one-standing. It exists so a smaller friend group does not have to pad the room with strangers to make a session feel possible. A full eight-player lobby is louder, slower to fill, and more likely to leave people spectating mid-round. You cannot currently vote the wheel onto a favorite mini-game. Players have asked for a custom vote. Until that ships, every session is a random draw from the same five-game set plus whatever the capsule serves while you wait.

Winning a night, not a single click

Elimination is per challenge, but the evening is a string of those challenges. Fail Blindshot and you are out of that round. Survive Dynamite by stopping close to the target number. Tag people with a braincrab. Click arrows in Music Hero. Queue a push in Car Mode and hope nobody disconnects while the game waits on a force value — the 22 July 2026 playtest patch stopped that wait from freezing the match.

Skins are tied to Steam achievements, not a shop grind. Sadman unlocks after you die ten times from anything. Chubby is first blood in Blindshot. Nimble One is an exact score of 7 in Dynamite. Scientist is ten braincrab tags. Partyman is dancing in first place on the podium. Freelancer is three voting-capsule deaths. Greesha is scoring −100 points during a game. Cultist, the rare one at about 2% of Steam owners, is winning the final game five times. Steam Cloud keeps that progress with your account.

What to do in your first hour

Buy or Family Share the game, confirm you are on Windows 10 with a Vulkan GPU or on a Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 15, then join a private code rather than trusting a quiet public queue. Read the Controls page so you know WASD, Shift, E, Space, and Escape before Music Hero starts eating misclicks. If a friend black-screens during match start, the connection guide maps that symptom to the playtest patch rather than a mystery GPU curse.

Watch one full wheel cycle before you chase Cultist. Blindshot is about bumping people to reveal them when you cannot see the field. Dynamite is a timing minigame that punishes ping. Braincrab is a tag toy some players gimmick with the timer. Music Hero is the throwaway rhythm round reviewers compare to a cheap Guitar Hero beat. Car Mode is a push auction, not a driving sandbox. Once that clicks, the How to Win guide is worth more than another public queue dodge.
