Twisted Party Party Planner
Organize the perfect Twisted Party session
Running a successful Twisted Party session requires more than just getting friends into a lobby. This guide covers lobby configuration, invite code sharing, ideal group sizes, how to handle players joining mid-session, and the known issues you should account for before you start.
Ideal Group Size
Twisted Party supports 2–8 players. The best experience is at the upper end of that range. A full 8-player lobby is significantly more chaotic and social than a 4-player room, and the mini-game difficulty scales with player count in ways that make lower counts feel easier but less exciting.
If you are running a session with fewer than 4 players, consider inviting additional friends or joining public lobbies to fill the remaining slots. A 2-player session is technically possible but loses the social dynamics that make Twisted Party distinctive.
Creating a Private Lobby
From the main menu, select Create Lobby (the exact label may vary slightly depending on your version). You will be prompted to choose between a private and open lobby. Select private.
Once the lobby is created, you will receive an invite code — a short alphanumeric string that friends can enter to join directly. Share this code through whatever channel your group uses. Do not share it in public spaces, as anyone with the code can join your lobby.
Lobby Settings
The lobby host has access to a small set of configuration options:
Player Cap — Set the maximum number of players allowed in the lobby. The default is 8. Lowering this is useful if you want a faster-paced session with fewer people.
Round Timer — Some mini-games have variable timer settings controlled by the host. Check the mini-game rules before starting to confirm the settings are what your group expects.
Ready System — Players in the lobby signal readiness by pressing the interact/use key. The host manually starts the countdown when everyone is ready. There is no automatic start timer by default.
Handling Late Joins
When a player joins mid-session, they enter the lobby as an additional participant rather than replacing any existing player. If the lobby has already started rounds, the new player joins at the next round boundary — there is no mid-round entry.
If you have a player who frequently disconnects and rejoins, note that each rejoin counts as a new player entry. This can be disruptive in tight groups. Encouraging players to stay in the lobby through disconnections (and using the Fix Connection guide to resolve common issues) produces a better session flow.
Known Issues to Communicate to Your Group
Before starting, inform your group about these known issues so they do not catch anyone off guard:
Inter-round exclusion — In full 8-player lobbies, some players may be excluded from the inter-round mini-game and have to watch. This is not a bug — it is an intentional mechanic that has been criticized. Acknowledge it with your group so it does not create confusion.
Lobby freezes — If the lobby freezes at the loading screen, the host should restart the game and recreate the lobby. Do not have players attempt to rejoin a frozen lobby — it will not resolve itself.
Black screens on launch — If a player launches into a black screen, they should update GPU drivers, verify game files in Steam, and disable overlay software. See the Fix Connection Issues guide for full steps.
Session Flow Recommendations
For the smoothest session, the host should:
- Create the private lobby and share the invite code before everyone is in Steam
- Confirm all players can enter the lobby and see each other in the player list
- Agree on a ready system (who calls start, or use the built-in ready indicator)
- Play multiple rounds in sequence without returning to the main menu between rounds
- Address disconnections immediately rather than waiting to see if the lobby recovers

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the ideal group size for Twisted Party?
Full 8-player lobbies are the most chaotic and fun, but 4–6 players also work well. The game is least interesting at 2 players, where the social dynamics that define Twisted Party are difficult to develop.
Can late joiners participate in the current round?
No. Players who join mid-session enter at the next round boundary. There is no mid-round entry in Twisted Party.
How do I share the lobby invite code?
The invite code is displayed in the lobby screen. Copy it and share it through Discord, text, or whatever communication platform your group uses. Anyone with the code can join — do not share it in public spaces.
